MDF Baseboards
These baseboards are always sold painted and prime, limiting your ability to work with natural wood grains in your baseboard.
They are great for areas of high traffic, they damage easily. MDF should always be coated in a tough transparent top layer to keep damage at bay. However, when done right, can look great for years to come.
-Because they’re man-made, MDF baseboards are all perfectly straight (or, at least they should be!) You never have to worry about your wood bowing.
These baseboards are a lot less expensive than wood baseboards. They’re a great solution for DIYers on a budget!
-Unlike wooden baseboards, MDF never splits or is damaged when nailing them to the wall.
Wood Baseboards
-These don’t come painted or primed, leaving you to work with the natural wood. Do with it what you would like!
-Wood baseboards of all kinds are usually sturdier than MDF baseboards. Even soft wood is super durable.
-Unfortunately, wood baseboards can split when being nailed to the wall. Use the correct tools to ensure that things are installed with the utmost care.
