Painting Garage Floors: Tips
Tip #1: Clean it really well.
Before you set out painting your garage floors, it’s vital to clean all loose debris from the floor – FIRST. That means sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and scraping any chunky gunk from the floor. If you slack on this step, your paint job is sure to crack and peel in no time at all. This product is great for getting things cleaned up.
Tip #2: Use the right kind of paint.
The most important garage painting tip we can give you is to choose the right type of paint. DO NOT use acrylic paint or home interior paint. This kind of paint cannot hold up to the abuse of car tires and other garage happenings. Look for:
Tip #3: Fill cracks and holes.
Once you’ve cleaned the floor, before you apply your primer, take the time to patch any cracks and holes. This will significantly improve your final product.

Tip #4: Allow each layer of paint to dry completely.
You’ll want to add several coats of paint to make your garage floor look the best. One or two coats of primer, one or two coats of epoxy paint, and a sealer. It’s important that you allow each coat to fully dry before applying the next for optimal results.
Tip #5: Seal that bad boy.
Different seals will have different outcomes. So when you’re done painting your garage floor and ready to apply the seal, I recommend reading product reviews to make sure you’re getting a good product. Some seals turn yellow over time, this is something to look for in reviews.
Painting Garage Floors: Ideas
When painting a garage floor, there are several different ideas to choose from. Here are a few of my favorite:
Go for an old school look and paint a checkerboard pattern with different colors of epoxy on your garage floor. The durability of the epoxy will make this last for years! Use painters tape to make sure that your lines are clean.
If you don’t want to go for anything too crazy, pick a nice marbled epoxy to create a marbled effect on your flooring. This will make you feel like royalty!
Use a stencil to create a cool pattern on your garage floor. You can stencil swirls, flowers, chevron, or any other pattern that you can think of. The possibilities are endless!
