Concrete floors can be very handy, but “as-is” they’re not very visually appealing. Staining is one way to make your concrete floor look beautiful and furniture-worthy. The process is lengthy, but relatively simple. Here are some ideas to stain your concrete floor.
Before you begin, make sure you protect your skin and especially your eyes, as the substance you will use can be harmful.
Tape and paper the base boards and lower part of the wall to protect them from the stain. Image from 504 Main.
Scrub the floor with concrete cleaner/etcher and wash with water. Get rid of the surface water and allow the floor to dry completely.
Apply the stain using a sprayer in circular motions. You want to spray somewhat randomly for a mottled look. Let the stain dry for several hours, then decide if you want to apply a second coat. If you do, let that coat dry overnight. Image from Radon Seal.
Apply the sealer using a tray and paint roller. After it dries, apply a second coat. Follow manufacturer’s instructions as to how long to wait before you walk on the floor or move furniture onto it. Here are a few finished projects that I think turned out beautifully! This first one is from Classic Stained Concrete.
Another beautiful project from TYWKIWDBI.
I think this floor may be one of my favorites…from Babble.
