I have lived in some pretty run down places throughout my life. The bathroom is the room that always showed the most wear and tear. There are some easy ways to fix up your bathroom and make an outdated or worn out bathroom look beautiful and up-to-date. The best place to start is in the bathtub area. The tile shower may be cracked or worn, or maybe the tub has stains that can’t be removed. Refinishing your bathtub can make a huge difference and can really brighten up the bathroom. Here are the steps to refinishing your bathtub:
1. Clean
Before you refinish anything, it should be cleaned. Be sure to remove every possible stain or build-up with an abrasive cleaner, like a lime remover. Ammonia is also a great way to get rid of soap scum and build-up.
2. Sand
Sand the tub to rough up the surface. This will allow the epoxy to adhere better to the tub.
3. Mix The Epoxy
Stir the paint and then slowly add in the hardening epoxy. Stir until both components are fully blended.
4. Paint Your Tub
Using a roller would be the easiest route to go, although you will probably need to use a brush too, in the areas that you can’t get to with a roller. Be careful to brush in a pattern, only brushing in one direction, for the nicest finish.
5. Paint A Second Coat
Most bathtubs or surfaces will need 2 coats of epoxy. Give the first coat time to dry before starting the next coat. This usually takes about 2 hours.
Buying a refinishing kit for a bathtub is a great idea. I found a great one that can be purchased here.
Enjoy your new hard-earned bathtub! Let the relaxation begin!
You did not say what kind of epoxy or paint that you used.
how did it hold up? I have used a different product with less than great results
