Tips For Storing Big Garden Hoses {That Aren’t Kinky}

As you begin to pack away your yard and garden this year, make it a point to store your garden hoses for the winter. You won’t need it through the winter months, and storing it somewhere safe can keep it functioning for longer than it would have outside. Cold, harsh winter weather can cause the hose to crack and break, deeming it absolutely useless when Spring rolls around. But though it’s necessary, storing garden hoses kinds of takes up a lot of space! Good thing I have the perfect solution. Here are a few quick and easy ways to store your big garden hoses for the winter.

Tips For Storing Big Garden Hoses {That Aren’t Kinky}

Prior To Storage
Prior to storing your garden hose for winter, prepare it for winter by running water through it one more time. Run water through the house for 3-4 minutes and watch as the water drains completely from the hose. When dry, roll up your house as directed above.

Wall Hooks
This tutorial will help you wrap your hose so that it’s sleek, elegant, and doesn’t take up much space at all. Once you’ve wrapped it up tightly, hang it on a large hook inside of your garage. Store it with other like-items such as extension chords and other household tools. What’s great about this is that there’s just about every style of hook out there these days. You can definitely find one that allows you to display it in a chic, put together way if you like your garage nice and tidy.

Floor Storage Ideas
If you don’t have room on the wall of your garage for another hook (trust me, my husband and I have almost hit that point. So. Many. Gardening. Tools.) store your hose on your floor in some kind of bin or bucket, instead. I recommend storing your hose in a galvanized bin on the floor. Wrap it up in the same way that you did on the wall hook for a look that is stylish and completely effective. Two of my favorite things.

Don’t Forget The Fittings
After you’ve rolled up your garden hose and stored it wherever you see fit in your garage, I recommend covering the ends with fittings. These fittings cover the ends of the hose so small insects can’t get into the hose and create a nest for winter. It would be a horrible realization to find something like that when you go to do your gardening come Spring.
