Fix Squeaky Door Hinges With This…

Squeaky door hinges are the worst! I always used to wake my husband when I get up to get ready in the mornings because the door squeaks every time! We lived with it for an incredibly long time until my husband finally used WD-40 to silence things a bit. Oh, and if only we had done that sooner! What a game-changer it would have been. Who knew it would be that easy to fix squeaky door hinges! If you can relate to my squeaky door problem, use these three methods to keep things a little quieter.

Fix Squeaky Door Hinges With This…

The Lubrication Method

Sometimes, you can fix squeaky hinges with a little help from something purchased at the local hardware store. First, simply try spraying the hinge with WD-40 before removing the hinge pin. Coat the hinge as best you can. Often times, this is all that is needed to solve your problem!

If your door is still squeaky, you’ll need to remove the pins holding the hinge. You can use a hammer and nail to gently remove the pin from the door. Now, your doorway is not attached to the frame, so keep it propped. Next, coat hinges in white grease. Replace the hinge by wiggling it back into place. Wipe down the excess oil and reapply if ever necessary.

The Wax Method

Believe it or not, door hinges can be easily fixed with the application of some paraffin wax. Melt the wax evenly in 15-second microwave increments or in a pot over low heat. Once fully melted, dip the pins from your hinges in hot wax. You’ll want to cover each pin entirely, so make sure that you purchase enough to do just that. Wait until the wax has dried and then refit them into the hinges of the door. The entire process should take about 5-10 minutes from start to finish. Test the pins to see if the squeaking stopped. If it did not, apply another coat of paraffin wax to the pins. It may take several coats until the squeaking has finally stopped.

The Steel Wood Method

Sometimes, the reason for the squeaking in the first place is due to dirty and other grime caught in the hinges. If this is true in your case, it’s possible to remove the grime with steel wool. Again, first, remove the hinge pins and coat them in baking soda or a similar household cleaner. Once coated, use the brush to smooth in the cleaner, removing the buildup of dirt and other junk. Once cleaned, simply reinsert the pins and test out your hinges. I told you that they’d be squeak-free!
