Fridge repair doesn’t have to be scary, but fixing a broken refrigerator can be tricky! Refrigerators are expensive to replace. So hearing a funny sound or noticing a leak can make your stomach twist into knots. Before you panic and call the repair man, check out our list of easy DIY fixes anyone can perform on their fridge if they find a problem.

Your Fridge Is Constantly Making Noise

Refrigerators that hum, buzz, and whirl are annoying. You may have supposed it was normal for your fridge to subtly hum at all times, but it isn’t. Here are a few things you could do to your fridge to quiet it down a bit.

Get a soundproofing mat for beneath your fridge.

OR

Evaporator fan grommets can wear out and cause the fridge to buzz. Unplug your fridge, remove everything from the inside the freezer including the shelves. Via the back wall of the freezer, open the access door. You’ll find the evaporator fan here. Check the rubber grommets to see if they’re all in place and unbroken. These are easy parts to locate online.

OR

Is the refrigerator level? Place a level on top of the fridge to see if it is leaning. If so, level it out and see if that eliminates the noise it has been making. The legs at the base of the fridge can be adjusted to level it.

OR

Check to see if the ice maker is producing ice. If you haven’t seen any ice, yet you hear a buzzing sound every ten of fifteen minutes, check to see if the ice maker is hooked up to the water.

The Items In Your Fridge Are Constantly Freezing

A cold refrigerator is a good refrigerator, right? Well, not when your produce is freezing. Beyond adjusting the thermostat, you can try a few other things to fix the freeze.

The thermostat may be busted. But they’re easy to purchase online and swap out yourself.

OR

If the damper is stuck in the open position, it could be letting cold air in too frequently.

Your Milk Is Always A Little Too Warm

Sometimes the problem with the fridge is that items aren’t staying cold enough. This can cause food to spoil too quickly.

Clean the coils for the condenser.

OR

Adjust the thermostat in case it accidentally was set too low.
If your fridge or freezer is scarcely empty, the fridge may have trouble staying cool. Fill it with more items.
Check the seal on your door to make sure it’s closing tightly and locking in cool air.

Leaking Fridge

If you keep finding a pool of water around your fridge, you’ll want to fix the leak as soon as possible. The leak can only come from one of three places: the door gasket, the drain pan, or the defrost pan. Locate the source of your leak to easily fix this problem.
