  1. Try a baby wipe. It keeps the pets hair from floating around and controls it while grooming them. Also controls static you can also use them on your hair on those days when your hair is hard to control.

  2. feed your dog molasses, it cuts shedding down by half. I feed my dogs ( 2 are golden retrievers) all are around 100lbs about a heaping tablespoon a day

  3. I would even hesitate at baby wipes. Just remember…ANYTHING you wipe onto your pet, they have to lick off! Think of licking perfume off your own skin.

  4. To start with, don’t feed your dog table scraps or CRAP dog food! READ product labels. Feeding your dog a good quality food will help reduce shedding! Brushing your dog often also helps reduce shedding!

    • I agree in good dog food. I had a vet tell me when my Brittany died of heart disease, to also include feeding them meat (not too much fat) as they are meat eaters. By doing this it keeps their circulation running perfectly. A little fat provides good oils for the coat. If you press on your dogs gums and it does not spring back to pink immediately and stays white, you need to rush your dog to the vet as it is in big trouble. Dog food is mostly grains that expand to give a full belly and low grade by products. Some chow is now improving, read your labels and compare. They need nutrition. As a treat, I cook meat beef bones for 20 minutes, let them cool and let the dogs eat out the marrow. Because the bones are boiled they do not splinter and provides good teeth cleaning for 5 years! I never give any chicken or pork or steak bones as they splinter. The soup water can be spooned over their chow, which helps the coat.
These boiled up beef bones (soup bones) can also be frozen and given to puppies that are teething, it calms their gums down.

My aunt had a scotty dog with severe skin allergies and was told to give him a real hamburger every night by her vet. The dog’s allergies went away and at 11 years old, the vet thought it was only 4!

Meaning well for your best friends.

  5. I did dog obedience classes at a hall. The building owners finally insisted the trainers do something to cut down on the fur/hair as sweeping was not keeping up with it or they were out.

A new ground rule was started for everyone attending class by the trainers. Before entering the building, you must bring a pretty wet cloth towel (Medium size) that you drape over the dogs head and pull/grab it along the entire body of the dog right down to the tail tip. Shake out the towel outside and store in your own bag (grocery store bags work excellent). This virtually cut down on 90% of the dog hair in the building. An extra benefit, the dogs loved the grooming moment of “love” as it felt good . They will also line up to have their snouts washed after eating at night! They love it as they can’t get everything with their tongues! Remember their noses are powerful smelling wands. Some folks at class added a drop of lavender oil to their towels as that served as a natural flea repellent too! Allergy sufferers benefit too as this technique grabs the dander which causes the problem to begin with.

Happy Tails to you! Ps this was worth it besides the training.
